In this context, the term mobile health or m Health has emerged to describe the broad spectrum of information-communication technology for medical and public health practices supported by mobile devices, whereas the terms mobile learning or m Learning have evolved to describe the use of mobile devices to deliver educational content for preclinical, clinical, or specialty training and continuing education or professional development [10,11].

Considering the rapidly evolving nature of m Learning technologies, up-to-date evidence is essential to evaluate the effectiveness of m Learning for health professions education. The most recently published of these reviews was in 2015 with a search strategy that was applied in 2012 [19]. However, the technology and field of m Learning have advanced rapidly since.

Mobile Apps for Teaching Intubation: Scoping Review and Critical Analysis in eLearning
Teaching modalities that are based on cognitive learning theory, mental practice, and simulation are known to be highly effective for both the acquisition of new knowledge and retention [1,2].
m Learning (learning via a mobile device usually through downloadable apps) may be useful for repeated exposure and just-in-time learning [3-5]. Ensuring the quality of m Learning tools is important, particularly with smartphone ownership by health care workers and app use at an all-time high [6,7].
