Among the pretrained models implemented in this study, Bio Link BERT and Bio M-ELECTRA were the highest-performing models in the BLURB benchmark [18], which evaluates the performance of pretrained models in the biomedical literature. For each pretrained model, we fine-tuned 31 screening models corresponding to all possible combinations of the 5 components (Title, Introduction, Methods, Results, and Conclusion) and compared their performances.

Second (RQ2), we hypothesized that the PEMs would not follow the recommended guidelines of sixth-eighth–grade level readability (hypothesis 2) since literature of readability assessment has shown this trend. To test this hypothesis, the composite scores were used to generate both categorical and numerical data. The normality of the composite scores was examined using the Shapiro-Wilk test. The null hypothesis of this test is to assume that the population of data is normally distributed.

A systematic review of 35 reports which investigated spin found that more than 56% of trials included spin in their abstract (n=13) and main text (n=16) and that 26.3% of systematic reviews (n=2) included spin in their main text [36].
