Topical Application of Tea Tree Oil for the Treatment of Verruca Vulgaris
In aromatherapy, tea tree oil (TTO), extracted through steam distillation of the leaves and terminal branches of the Australian plant Melaleuca alternifolia, is used for the management of various dermatological conditions, including HPV [3,4], by naturopathy physicians. This letter aims to present TTO as a potential remedy for HPV warts, highlighting its properties, benefits, and the need for further research to establish its effectiveness and safety.

Aromatherapy involves the use of essential oils extracted from flowers, leaves, seeds, pericarps, and resins for the treatment and prevention of diseases, physical and mental health, relaxation, and stress relief [12]. Aromatherapy includes methods such as the inhalation of aromas and massage using essential oils diluted in vegetable oils [13]. Among aromatherapy methods, inhalation of essential oils has the advantage of being simple and noninvasive [14].

Moreover, we found an alleviating effect of aromatherapy on perceived stress, which is in line with a previous study [12] in which participants verbally reported stress relief after the first week of the 2-week aromatherapy intervention for stress management. The intervention effect observed in the posttest scores in our study indicated that the use of aromatherapy to decrease perceived stress in older adults is a promising approach.
