Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), endometriosis, and uterine fibroids are among the most prevalent reproductive health conditions, collectively impacting millions of women and people who menstruate globally. Prevalences of PCOS and endometriosis range from 4%-20% and 5%-10%, respectively [1-4].

Developing a Novel Web-Based Self-Management Support Intervention for Polycystic Ovary Syndrome: Mixed Methods Study With Patients and Health Care Professionals

Semistructured interviews were conducted with women living with PCOS, trustees of the Verity UK PCOS charity who themselves had PCOS, and endocrinologists who provided services to patients with PCOS at a large publicly funded teaching hospital. Those with lived experience of PCOS were 13 adult women recruited through purposive sampling from social media. All had received a formal diagnosis of PCOS from health professionals at least 6 months before the study and took part in individual interviews.

Therefore, we delved into the vast realm of You Tube comments on PCOS videos, meticulously analyzing the keywords, sentiments, prevailing trends, and recurring themes expressed by the public, ultimately unravelling the rich tapestry of opinions surrounding PCOS.

Surveyed people with PCOS also expressed dissatisfaction with their physicians’ awareness of PCOS [13,14] and the lack of information provided to them about PCOS or relevant clinical therapies upon diagnosis [15]. Some people with PCOS find and participate in online PCOS support groups that exist on various social media platforms. This is possibly due to dissatisfaction with clinical diagnosis and management options.
