Los Angeles peaked the week of July 10-16 with an average of 2080 new cases per day during that week; Miami also peaked that same week with an average of 1666 new cases per day. The impact of the first wave on southern cities is associated with a lack of COVID-19 prevention measures in these areas [9,16,17,34,35].
