User Archetypes of a Well-Being–Promoting Mobile App Among Adults: Cross-Sectional Study and Cluster Analysis of Usage Patterns

User Archetypes of a Well-Being–Promoting Mobile App Among Adults: Cross-Sectional Study and Cluster Analysis of Usage Patterns

In addition, a web app without the group meetings was associated with increased physical activity and decreased sedentary time, but only among participants with good adherence to the intervention. The principal concept of the app is based on self-determination behavior change theory, which supports autonomous motivation and competence, emphasizing freedom of choice and drawing on users’ existing knowledge, skills, and habits [5].

Adherence Patterns of Patients Using Remote Patient Management After Myocardial Infarction: Mixed Methods Persona Approach

Adherence Patterns of Patients Using Remote Patient Management After Myocardial Infarction: Mixed Methods Persona Approach

Reasons for this spectrum of adherence could be that needs, preferences, and capacities of users are not sufficiently considered [17], leading to a misalignment between the intervention and the users’ needs and abilities. Factors influencing (non)adherence in cardiac interventions are varying, including intrapersonal, clinical, health system, and logistical factors [18]. The duration of the intervention possibly influences adherence, with longer interventions having adverse effects on adherence [19].

How AI-Based Digital Rehabilitation Improves End-User Adherence: Rapid Review

How AI-Based Digital Rehabilitation Improves End-User Adherence: Rapid Review

Although the terms compliance and adherence are different in some ways, the 2 words are used interchangeably by medical professionals [18]. Compliance or adherence guarantees that there is willing, cooperative, and engaged interaction between the client and the health care provider [19]. Several factors and explanations contribute to the complexity of compliance or adherence to rehabilitation.

The Use of Mobile Health Technology and Behavioral Economics to Encourage Adherence to Statins and Blood Pressure–Lowering Medication in Adolescents with Familial Hypercholesterolemia or Hypertension: Protocol for a Pre-Post Cohort Study

The Use of Mobile Health Technology and Behavioral Economics to Encourage Adherence to Statins and Blood Pressure–Lowering Medication in Adolescents with Familial Hypercholesterolemia or Hypertension: Protocol for a Pre-Post Cohort Study

The Wellth app was the primary tool used in the study to promote medication adherence. Patients used the app to receive reminders, make check-ins (ie, document adherence), check their reward balance, and view their adherence history. Participants downloaded the app to their smartphone without any additional software or encryption needed. In order to prevent patients from being excluded based on the costs of the necessary hardware, we provided a smartphone and data plan free of charge to patients.

Effects of Information Length and Implementation Intentions on Adherence to Weight Management Strategies: Experimental Study

Effects of Information Length and Implementation Intentions on Adherence to Weight Management Strategies: Experimental Study

While the efficacy of many of these interventions is well-established [5], their impact on weight management remains contingent upon individual adherence. However, evidence shows that adherence is often suboptimal and can be as low as 10%, undermining intervention effectiveness [6]. There is also some evidence that adherence is lower in individuals with lower socioeconomic status [7], which may contribute to health inequalities.

Health Care Workers’ Experience With a Psychological Self-Monitoring App During the COVID-19 Pandemic: Mixed Methods Study

Health Care Workers’ Experience With a Psychological Self-Monitoring App During the COVID-19 Pandemic: Mixed Methods Study

In this regard, adherence is the term often used to describe how much a technology is used [30] and is mostly measured by the number of logins, completed modules, or completed activities [31]. Measures of adherence have been positively associated with positive psychological outcomes in digital interventions [31]. A younger age and a biologically female sex were found to positively influence adherence [32,33]; however, research is needed to identify other factors [34].

Defining and Measuring Engagement and Adherence in Digital Mental Health Interventions: Protocol for an Umbrella Review

Defining and Measuring Engagement and Adherence in Digital Mental Health Interventions: Protocol for an Umbrella Review

However, despite their promise, DMHIs frequently suffer from low engagement and poor adherence, which limit their long-term effectiveness and scalability [5,6]. Many users discontinue use prematurely or do not engage with the content in a sustained or meaningful way. A major barrier to resolving these challenges is the lack of agreement on how engagement and adherence are defined and measured in the literature.

Key Elements and Theoretical Foundations for the Design and Delivery of Text Messages to Boost Medication Adherence in Patients With Diabetes, Hypertension, and Hyperlipidemia: Scoping Review

Key Elements and Theoretical Foundations for the Design and Delivery of Text Messages to Boost Medication Adherence in Patients With Diabetes, Hypertension, and Hyperlipidemia: Scoping Review

Effective management of chronic conditions relies heavily on medication adherence [4], defined as the extent to which individuals follow prescribed medication regimens as suggested by health care professionals [5,6]. High adherence rates are associated with improved clinical outcomes, reduced complications, and lower health care costs [7,8]. However, medication adherence remains suboptimal worldwide, with an estimated global adherence rate of only 50% [9].

Adherence to Therapy Using Neurostimulation Devices in the Treatment of Pediatric Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder: Extraclinical Study

Adherence to Therapy Using Neurostimulation Devices in the Treatment of Pediatric Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder: Extraclinical Study

However, stakeholders in the extraclinical (outside the sphere of the clinic) use of neurostimulators among children—parents, teachers, school nurses, and psychologists—are rarely consulted and have little opportunity for preclinical or extraclinical input into design considerations that support adherence to therapy using such devices [8,31].

Stationary Cycling Exercise With Virtual Reality to Reduce Depressive Symptoms Among People With Mild to Moderate Depression: Randomized Controlled Trial

Stationary Cycling Exercise With Virtual Reality to Reduce Depressive Symptoms Among People With Mild to Moderate Depression: Randomized Controlled Trial

Exercise adherence is calculated as recorded training completion times/required target times × 100%. Patients with an adherence percentage of less than 60% are classified as having poor adherence or moderate adherence, and those with an adherence percentage of ≥60% are classified as having good adherence or complete adherence.
