Anti-Asian Sentiments During the COVID-19 Pandemic Across 20 Countries: Analysis of a 12-Billion-Word News Media Database

In view of the alarming increase in anti-Asian racism, US president Joe Biden signed an executive order on January 26, 2021, directing federal agencies to combat xenophobia toward the Asian American community in the hope of reversing the 2-fold issue of increasing unemployment and hate crimes [6]. Apart from several cross-sectional studies and numerous commentaries [7-10], there are few empirical studies that have assessed the development of anti-Asian sentiments across the pandemic.
