Competence in health literacy and digital knowledge is fundamental for an accurate understanding of PRO data as well as knowledge about health behavior and health practices and how patients understand and interpret health information [3]. Challenges arise when data accessibility does not consider differences in health literacy. While aggregate-level understanding may tolerate some variations, individual patient pathways require a common understanding to capture nuances [4,5].

A possible explanation for this finding could be rooted in the Dunning-Kruger effect, where individuals with higher confidence in their understanding may overestimate their actual knowledge [62]. This overconfidence might stem from their trust in scientific sources, which increases their perceived comprehension but does not necessarily reflect their actual understanding of the content.

Timely, secure, and reliable data access and sharing are critical to understanding COVID-19, controlling its spread, improving the effectiveness and acceptance of government policies, and fostering global cooperation in the race to develop and distribute effective therapies and vaccines. During the COVID-19 pandemic, data are being rapidly shared to understand the location of infections, confirmed cases, recoveries, and deaths.

Patients with chronic conditions require a holistic approach for care, education, and self-management to achieve patient understanding and motivation to adhere to instructions [7]. Lack of patient awareness about a condition has been identified as the most common barrier to active self-management of chronic conditions [8]. Further, despite good patient understanding about a specific treatment, adherence worsens with increasing age and complexity of treatments [9].

Youths’ understanding of physical activity intensities is presented in Tables 3 and 4 (children) and Tables 5 and 6 (adolescents), with representative verbal statements for each activity reflecting youths’ greatest intensity-level frequency count.
Children were able to correctly align sedentary activities with the respective intensity 62% of the time, with girls demonstrating a better understanding of sedentary behavior than boys (80% vs 53%; P=.38).
