Clinicians’ Perceptions of the Benefits and Challenges of Teleoncology as Experienced Through the COVID-19 Pandemic: Qualitative Study

One clinician recalled an experience where they were able to consult with a patient living in another country using teleoncology: One of the patients I saw . . . was from the U.K., and that's [teleoncology] was the only way we were going to be able to see him at that time. Clinicians also described how teleoncology reduced the financial burden of coming to appointments in person. Clinicians cited travel expenses for individuals, especially those with a limited financial budget.

Teleoncology is the application of telemedicine to oncology. It has the potential to enhance access to and improve the quality of clinical cancer care [6]. Patients from rural and distant geographical areas will be most affected by curfews. Virtual management (telemedicine) has been shown to reduce health costs and improve access to care.
