The Prevalence and Incidence of Suicidal Thoughts and Behavior in a Smartphone-Delivered Treatment Trial for Body Dysmorphic Disorder: Cohort Study

The Prevalence and Incidence of Suicidal Thoughts and Behavior in a Smartphone-Delivered Treatment Trial for Body Dysmorphic Disorder: Cohort Study

This study provides a relatively strong test of the risk mitigation procedures followed because (1) in general, people with BDD have high rates of suicidal thoughts [20,21,22,23], suicide attempts [eg, 21, 24, 25], and completed suicides [21]; (2) although the current RCT excluded based on “active” suicidal thoughts occurring in the past month, it did not exclude any form of STB occurring>30 days before baseline assessment, including past suicide attempt, active suicidal ideation, plans, and intent, which makes

Posttraumatic Growth Among Suicide-Loss Survivors: Protocol for an Updated Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Posttraumatic Growth Among Suicide-Loss Survivors: Protocol for an Updated Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

In addition, this population of people bereaved by suicide is at an increased risk of suicidal behavior themselves [2]. Based on data that over 700,000 people die by suicide each year globally [3], and that for each suicide, there are from 6 family members to 135 community members considered to be bereaved or exposed, respectively [4,5], up to 94.5 million can be affected by suicide annually.

A Digital Approach for Addressing Suicidal Ideation and Behaviors in Youth Mental Health Services: Observational Study

A Digital Approach for Addressing Suicidal Ideation and Behaviors in Youth Mental Health Services: Observational Study

The high prevalence of suicidal ideation and behaviors among youth is alarming [1]. While the biological and psychosocial factors associated with the development of suicidality are complex [2] and alone cannot predict the risk of suicide, it is strongly associated with long-term severe mental illnesses [3], poor social functioning, [1], and future suicidal behaviors [4,5].

Smartphone Screen Time Characteristics in People With Suicidal Thoughts: Retrospective Observational Data Analysis Study

These methods were applied to a sample of adolescents (n=50) and adults (n=76) with suicidal thinking. Data were collected for up to 6 months from participants’ personal Android and i OS phones using the Beiwe smartphone app (Harvard University) [23]. Our methodological contributions are as follows.

Talk Time Differences Between Interregional and Intraregional Calls to a Crisis Helpline: Statistical Analysis

National suicide prevention strategies describe the importance of connectedness as a protective factor against suicide [11], which is also a prominent part of theories that explain suicidal behavior [12]; the length of call may reflect the extent to which a caller feels supported and able to discuss his or her personal situation.

Feasibility and Acceptability Study of a Culturally Adapted Web-Based Intervention to Reduce Suicidal Ideation for Syrian Asylum Seekers and Refugees in the United Kingdom: Protocol for a Mixed Methods Study

Feasibility and Acceptability Study of a Culturally Adapted Web-Based Intervention to Reduce Suicidal Ideation for Syrian Asylum Seekers and Refugees in the United Kingdom: Protocol for a Mixed Methods Study

One of the most concerning and least addressed mental health issues for asylum seekers and refugees across Europe is suicidal ideation (SI) and suicidal behavior more broadly [6]. Several studies have shown high rates of SI among asylum seekers and refugees in Sweden, 33.9% [7] and 48% [8]; Switzerland, 42.1% [9] and >30% [10]; and the United Kingdom, 40.9% [11].

Indeed, since 2010, there have been alarming increases in pediatric hospital admissions for nonsuicidal self-injury [8-12], with 1 study reporting that hospitalization for suicidal ideation or attempts in children and adolescents more than doubled from 0.66% in 2008 to 1.82% in 2015 [10].

Large Language Models Versus Expert Clinicians in Crisis Prediction Among Telemental Health Patients: Comparative Study

Large Language Models Versus Expert Clinicians in Crisis Prediction Among Telemental Health Patients: Comparative Study

More recently, suicide theories and research suggest ideation-to-action pathways to help explain suicide risk, where people who think about suicide are at a higher risk of participating in suicidal behavior [10-13]. The prevalence of suicidal ideation (SI), which is defined as “thinking about, considering, or planning suicide” [14], is common, with 12.3 million Americans aged 18 years and older having thoughts of suicide in 2021 [15]. SI is predictive of suicide attempts and completed suicide [16,17].

News Media Framing of Suicide Circumstances and Gender: Mixed Methods Analysis

News Media Framing of Suicide Circumstances and Gender: Mixed Methods Analysis

Women have higher rates of lifetime suicidal ideation [4] and suicide attempts [5]. Wang et al [3] also report that men experience higher rates of suicide likely due to the increased lethality of the mechanism. Circumstances of suicide, or negative life events that precipitate suicide-related behavior [6], also vary among men and women according to the analysis of suicides in the National Violent Death Reporting System [6].
