Quality Assessment of Smartphone Medication Management Apps in France: Systematic Search
The secondary objective of this study was to identify high-quality medication reminder apps and to provide recommendations to any patient needing to take one or more medications, regardless of pathology.
This involved a systematic search of smartphone apps with content evaluation, carried out between October 1, 2022, and June 20, 2023.

Reminder messages and incentive offers, which were informed by our prior work, will be carefully reviewed by investigators and key informants to ensure their ethical implementation and sustainability for a scaled-up intervention.
To assess the generalizability of the study’s context and findings, study data and the relationships among key variables of interest will be compared with information in publicly available survey data and administrative data sources.

Our study was conducted in conjunction with a clinic-wide rollout of an SMS text message–based reminder intervention. On the basis of the results from a prospective before-and-after clinical trial at the same clinic (NCT01579214) [18], the intervention aimed to improve patient-provider communication, remind individuals of upcoming appointments, and notify them of laboratory results (ie, CD4 count and viral load results).

In total, 51.4% (114/222) of the parents surveyed reported receiving the 15-month booking reminder (Table 3). Of these 114 parents, 96.5% (n=110) reported that it was helpful. Of the 110 parents who found the reminder helpful, 30.9% (n=34) booked or rescheduled their child’s 18-month immunization appointment after receiving the reminder.

Our reminder system is based on the We Chat app for mobile phones that scans individual QR codes and connects to the backend management system to send daily reminder messages. We compared the variability of adherence between the no-reminder group and the reminder group at each time point by plotting the longitudinal trajectory of adherence.
