Diaphragmatic Breathing Interfaces to Promote Relaxation for Mitigating Insomnia: Pilot Study

Diaphragmatic Breathing Interfaces to Promote Relaxation for Mitigating Insomnia: Pilot Study

Competence significantly impacted mental load (F1,131=12.639, P=.001) with a notable negative correlation (r=–0.301, P Immersion affected mental load (F1,131=9.523, P=.003) with a significant negative correlation (r=–0.240, P=.006). Challenge significantly influenced effort (F1,131=17.471, P Positive affect influenced mental load (F1,131=7.264, P=.008); however, the partial correlations were not significant, indicating a weaker direct impact under different interface conditions.

Acceptance, Safety, and Effect Sizes in Online Dialectical Behavior Therapy for Borderline Personality Disorder: Interventional Pilot Study

Acceptance, Safety, and Effect Sizes in Online Dialectical Behavior Therapy for Borderline Personality Disorder: Interventional Pilot Study

Borderline personality disorder (BPD) is a severe mental disorder characterized by high instability in affect, identity, and interpersonal relationships [1,2]. The prevalence of BPD is estimated to be between 0.7% and 2.7% in community samples [3,4] and between 11% and 35.6% in clinical samples [4]. BPD is associated with significant health care use and costs, as well as profound individual suffering and impaired quality of life [5-7].

Effect of a Web-Based Heartfulness Program on the Mental Well-Being, Biomarkers, and Gene Expression Profile of Health Care Students: Randomized Controlled Trial

Effect of a Web-Based Heartfulness Program on the Mental Well-Being, Biomarkers, and Gene Expression Profile of Health Care Students: Randomized Controlled Trial

Mental health problems including stress, anxiety, and depression have increased over recent years, especially with the COVID-19 pandemic [2,3]. Health care students have a high degree of stress and burnout due to the number of hours spent on learning each week, the large body of clinical knowledge to master, and the challenges of balancing work and home life [4-6].

Implementing a Hospital Call Center Service for Mental Health in Uganda: User-Centered Design Approach

Implementing a Hospital Call Center Service for Mental Health in Uganda: User-Centered Design Approach

Other important challenges facing mental health in Uganda include social norms [15], beliefs (such as witchcraft), lack of awareness of mental health disorders [8,11,16], pervasive stigma, and sociopolitical conflicts [13,17]; these not only result in an increase in the incidence of mental health problems but also lead to many people with mental health problems not seeking care and going undiagnosed.

The Effectiveness of a Digital App for Reduction of Clinical Symptoms in Individuals With Panic Disorder: Randomized Controlled Trial

The Effectiveness of a Digital App for Reduction of Clinical Symptoms in Individuals With Panic Disorder: Randomized Controlled Trial

DTxs related to mental health medicine are actively used in various psychiatric disorders, such as insomnia, substance abuse, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, and anxiety and depression, among others [13]. In particular, the use of Freespira, a panic disorder DTx, reduced panic symptoms, avoidance behaviors, and treatment costs in patients with panic disorder [14].

Feasibility, Acceptability, and Preliminary Efficacy of a Smartphone App–Led Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Depression Under Therapist Supervision: Open Trial

Feasibility, Acceptability, and Preliminary Efficacy of a Smartphone App–Led Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Depression Under Therapist Supervision: Open Trial

There simply are not and will not be enough clinicians to meet current demands for mental health care. Additionally, many people do not seek treatment for depression due to obstacles such as geographic distance from care providers, high costs, and stigma [8,9]. Given the prevalence of MDD and the substantial treatment gaps that exist, there is a clear need for low barrier, more widely accessible, effective treatments for MDD. The technology could bridge such gaps.

Combining mHealth Technology and Pharmacotherapy to Improve Mental Health Outcomes and Reduce Human Rights Abuses in West Africa: Intervention Field Trial

Combining mHealth Technology and Pharmacotherapy to Improve Mental Health Outcomes and Reduce Human Rights Abuses in West Africa: Intervention Field Trial

Mental health systems in West Africa are constrained in their resources, infrastructure, and access to trained mental health personnel, limiting their capacity to deliver care [1,2]. In part due to these limitations, and in part due to local belief systems that frame mental health problems as spiritual rather than medical or psychological in nature [3,4], people with serious mental illness (SMI) in the region are often treated by traditional or faith healers, who are in abundance [5,6].

A Digital Mask-Voiceprint System for Postpandemic Surveillance and Tracing Based on the STRONG Strategy

A Digital Mask-Voiceprint System for Postpandemic Surveillance and Tracing Based on the STRONG Strategy

Lockdowns and border closures imposed mental, social, and financial hardships in many societies. Even investing trillions of dollars, multiple virus attacks are difficult to stop, as vaccines have always been slower than mutations, and regional imbalances in medical care have also severely hampered vaccine coverage [2].
