Loss of Smell and Taste in Patients With Suspected COVID-19: Analyses of Patients’ Reports on Social Media

Although there is a limit in the range of information that can be obtained through social media (eg, accurate diagnosis of the patients), the use of it enabled us to obtain the symptoms and the progression of these symptoms from the patients who did not or could not visit the hospitals. The current analysis demonstrated that about 90% of the 355 patients in the COVID-19 Smell and Taste Loss group that reported their subjective smell or taste disturbance did not recover, at least completely, for months.
