In this section, we report the ethical challenges identified in the systematic literature search, grouping them under the 4 principles of biomedical ethics: autonomy, beneficence, nonmaleficence, and justice. Respect for autonomy is a fundamental principle of biomedical ethics and requires ensuring that the patient’s will is respected, unless it is in direct conflict with other fundamental values and professional duties.

Cannabis use is common among court-involved, nonincarcerated (CINI) youth, who comprise 74% of justice-involved youth [1]—of those who test positive for a substance at the time of their arrest, 92% test positive for cannabis [2]. Early-onset cannabis use has been linked to many negative long-term outcomes, including violent behavior [3], criminal justice involvement [4,5], and substance use (SU) disorders [6].
