A retrospective cohort study was performed with adult patients (≥18 years old) who were registered in the Divinópolis and Teófilo Otoni Flu Syndrome compulsory notification databases between June 1, 2020, and May 31, 2021. The Divinópolis and Teófilo Otoni Flu Syndrome databases include patients who live and/or have received health support during the illness course in one of these two cities.

After 2 years running as an experimental model and incorporating feedback from partner programs, Global Flu View (GFV) was restructured to empower the community of public health practitioners, data scientists, and researchers by providing an open data channel among these contributors for sharing experiences across the network.

FLUA/H1: influenza A(H1 N1); FLUA/H3: influenza A(H3 N2); FLU-B: influenza B.
The case patient presented to the outpatient clinic of one of the ILI surveillance sites that serves Helwan, a semiurban area in Cairo, on May 2020. She was a 21-year-old female student complaining of fever, cough, fatigue, and malaise for 2 days with no other symptoms or associated comorbidities. She presented with a high fever of 40.2°C, and her chest was free on auscultation.

For example, “I don’t see the point because I’ve never had flu [influenza]” was coded as “unnecessary” and “not had flu before.” A full list of the themes with examples is available in Table S2 in Multimedia Appendix 1.
Using this codified qualitative data, a network diagram [19,20] was generated for each of the four groups using the Networkx package in Python, version 3.7.
