Twenty-Five Years of Progress—Lessons Learned From JMIR Publications to Address Gender Parity in Digital Health Authorships: Bibliometric Analysis

Among the analyzed publications in medical informatics, the gender distribution of first authors was 37% (22,450/59,980) female and 47% (28,299/59,980) male, while 30% (17,811/59,980) of last authors were female and 57% (34,463/59,980) male. Unspecified gender accounted for the remaining 13%-15% in authorship positions.
