Enhancing Agency in Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Therapies Through Sensorimotor Technologies
In this context, other sensorimotor technologies letting patients connect to their environment may be of interest due to their potential to modulate the sense of body ownership (SO) and sense of agency (SA).
Emerging data have in fact reported how the SO and SA may be impacted in PTSD [14-19].

The study was conducted in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki and was registered with the Danish Data Protection Agency (file RH-2017-248, I-Suite 05720). Ethics approval was not legally required.
The data were analyzed thematically by following a 5-step process [19]. First, the authors read the transcriptions of the interviews, meetings, and questionnaire responses. Second, preliminary codes were noted in the margins during the reading.

He defines agency as the ability and deliberateness to achieve goals through a conscious reflection on one’s habitus [18-20]. In his view, context matters as it sets social expectations; makes agents reflect on their daily behavior; and may encourage them to modify their goals and embrace social expectations, especially in unforeseen situations [21].

These studies showed that motion synchrony increased the degree of agency and found that people felt an ownership toward the virtual body used in the experiments. In addition, increased agency could make people feel a greater presence with less simulator sickness in VR [7]. Various studies have used the motion synchronization method to induce size perception [6] and emotion [5], as well as reduce racial bias [9].

The first half of the participants (95/178, 53.4%) who enrolled in the study were allocated to the high-agency condition. After the completion of data collection for high-agency participants, the second half (83/178, 46.6%) of the participants were assigned to the low-agency condition. The low-agency narratives were matched in terms of narrative content to the narratives of the high-agency group who took part in the study before them.

For this paper, the double dance of agency was used as a lens to identify the theoretical concepts of interplay between health care professionals and technology performativity in a hospital setting.
The double dance of agency model incorporates key concepts that show attributes of human agency, the process of agency translation, material performativity, and mediation of contextual conditions [14].

The agency and self-expression motivations represent the identity-integral function of social media. Not included in motivations ascertained for the use of mass media, the abovementioned motivations indicate a unique aspect of Web 2.0, which is often characterized as participative and user-generated. Agency refers to the motivation to influence others by sharing one’s own ideas and messages.
