Anxiety, Post–COVID-19 Syndrome-Related Depression, and Suicidal Thoughts and Behaviors in COVID-19 Survivors: Cross-sectional Study

Anxiety, Post–COVID-19 Syndrome-Related Depression, and Suicidal Thoughts and Behaviors in COVID-19 Survivors: Cross-sectional Study

First, assuming a similar prevalence of depression and anxiety history among participants with and without COVID-19 history, we asked whether COVID-19 infection (a personal diagnosis or severe symptomology in a close friend or relative) was linked to—and explicitly causative of—increased depression (PHQ-9) or anxiety (state component of the STAI) screening scores.

Virtual Reality Tour to Reduce Perioperative Anxiety in an Operating Setting Before Anesthesia: Randomized Clinical Trial

The Spielberger State and Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) is frequently used [28]. However, the suitability of the STAI has been questioned for operation situations since it primarily measures anxiety in assessment situations [2]. Accordingly, more specific inventories have been developed, such as the STOA [2], the Amsterdam Perioperative Anxiety and Information Scale [14], and the Yale Preoperative Anxiety Scale [29], which was designed especially for children.

Excessive Media Consumption About COVID-19 is Associated With Increased State Anxiety: Outcomes of a Large Online Survey in Russia

Four psychometric measures, previously validated in the Russian population, were included: the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), Big Five Inventory-10, General Self-Efficacy Scale, and the Patient Health Questionnaire. We applied branching logic where it was justified to spare the users’ time while providing their responses. The survey was partitioned into 7 pages, including the introduction page containing general information about the survey.

The screening procedure involved a self-completion measure of their current anxiety level by completing the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) [20] online. Various reliability and validity tests have been conducted on the STAI and have provided sufficient evidence that it is an appropriate, reliable, and adequate measure for studying anxiety in research and clinical settings [21] and indicates anxiety levels for a single point in time.
