Digital Cognitive Behavioral Therapy–Based Treatment for Insomnia, Nightmares, and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Symptoms in Survivors of Wildfires: Pilot Randomized Feasibility Trial

Digital Cognitive Behavioral Therapy–Based Treatment for Insomnia, Nightmares, and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Symptoms in Survivors of Wildfires: Pilot Randomized Feasibility Trial

Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is among the more severe mental health conditions that may arise immediately or in the months following exposure to traumatic events [7]. Exposure to wildfires, which pose a significant threat to life or well-being, can increase an individual’s risk of developing PTSD.

Assessment, Decision, Adaptation, Production, Topical Experts-Integration, Training, and Testing (ADAPT-ITT) Framework to Tailor Evidence-Based Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Treatment for People With HIV to Enhance Engagement and Adherence: Qualitative Results from a Feasibility Randomized Controlled Trial

Although people with HIV (PWH) face many unique psychosocial risk factors that impact health outcomes, trauma exposure and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) have been consistently identified among the most prominent stressors for this population. The prevalence of PTSD among PWH, 30%-74% [2,3] far exceeds that of the general population, 3.9% [4].

Exploring Immersive Multimodal Virtual Reality Training, Affective States, and Ecological Validity in Healthy Firefighters: Quasi-Experimental Study

Exploring Immersive Multimodal Virtual Reality Training, Affective States, and Ecological Validity in Healthy Firefighters: Quasi-Experimental Study

In this regard, a systematic review [36] found some mental health issues within firefighter groups, namely, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, and depression. Oliveira et al [37] also investigated this issue and replicated these findings. Emotions play a crucial role in the mental health of firefighters [38].

Outcomes of a Remotely Delivered Complementary and Integrative Health Partnered Intervention to Improve Chronic Pain and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Symptoms: Randomized Controlled Trial

Outcomes of a Remotely Delivered Complementary and Integrative Health Partnered Intervention to Improve Chronic Pain and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Symptoms: Randomized Controlled Trial

In veterans, chronic pain commonly co-occurs with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), which can complicate therapy options and exacerbate symptom severity [3-5]. In veteran clinical pain populations, the estimated PTSD prevalence is 11.7% [6]. Co-occurrence of chronic pain and PTSD is associated with poor outcomes, such as elevated PTSD symptoms, pain intensity, sleep issues, pain catastrophizing beliefs, and psychological health outcomes [7-9].

Brief Peer-Supported Web-Based Skills Training in Affective and Interpersonal Regulation (BPS webSTAIR) for Trauma-Exposed Veterans in the Community: Randomized Controlled Trial

Brief Peer-Supported Web-Based Skills Training in Affective and Interpersonal Regulation (BPS webSTAIR) for Trauma-Exposed Veterans in the Community: Randomized Controlled Trial

Among US veterans, the prevalence of comorbid posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and major depressive disorder is estimated to be roughly twice the rate of PTSD alone [1], and the symptoms of each of these disorders have been associated with deficits in emotion regulation [2,3] and psychosocial functioning [4,5]. Meanwhile, veterans experience numerous practical and cultural barriers to accessing evidence-based mental health treatment.

Reducing Alcohol Misuse and Promoting Treatment Initiation Among Veterans Through a Brief Internet-Based Intervention: Protocol for a Randomized Controlled Trial

Reducing Alcohol Misuse and Promoting Treatment Initiation Among Veterans Through a Brief Internet-Based Intervention: Protocol for a Randomized Controlled Trial

Americans who served in the US military during or after September 11, 2001, and have since been discharged (post-9/11 veterans) experience concerning rates of mental health disorders, with an estimated prevalence of depression and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) ranging from 10% to 30%, respectively [1-5], and often co-occurring [6]. Alcohol use disorder (AUD) is the most common substance use disorder among veterans [7-10] and it, too, often co-occurs among veterans with depression or PTSD [11-14].

The Impact of User Engagement With Exposure Components on Posttraumatic Stress Symptoms in an mHealth Mobile App: Secondary Analysis of a Randomized Controlled Trial

The Impact of User Engagement With Exposure Components on Posttraumatic Stress Symptoms in an mHealth Mobile App: Secondary Analysis of a Randomized Controlled Trial

However, a recent review found that evidence for the efficacy of PTSD m Health apps was not consistently superior to inactive control conditions [5]. The efficacy of an m Health app for PTSD will depend upon how the user engages with the tool. Only one study has examined the relationship between engagement with a PTSD self-management app and symptom change. This study found that the number of log-ins to the m Health app PTSD Coach (Vertical Design) was not related to PTSD symptom reduction [6].

Enhancing Agency in Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Therapies Through Sensorimotor Technologies

Enhancing Agency in Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Therapies Through Sensorimotor Technologies

Dissociative PTSD (D-PTSD) has been recognized in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM-5) [115], and is supported by a neurophysiological basis that distinguishes it from conventional PTSD. Emotional overmodulation (ie, hypoarousal) in D-PTSD is thought to be linked to an underactivation of the amygdala and an overactivation of the PFC [114], in contrast to the standard PTSD model.

An Internet-Based Intervention to Increase the Ability of Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual People to Cope With Adverse Events: Single-Group Feasibility Study

The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual-5 Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Checklist (PCL-5) [36] was used to measure symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). For this study, the internal consistency of the PCL-5 was (α=.91). Additional measures were used during the screening process related to how participants experience their lives as members of the LGB community.
