Investigating the Efficacy of the Web-Based Common Elements Toolbox (COMET) Single-Session Interventions in Improving UK University Student Well-Being: Randomized Controlled Trial

Using power calculations based on the effect size of a previous iteration of COMET on the 9-item Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) [38], to detect a small effect of d=0.3, we required 378 participants to complete follow-up. A previous RCT of an SSI in adolescents had an attrition rate of around 28% at 3 months [32]. However, given our shorter follow-up rate of 4 weeks, we raised the recruitment target to 473 to allow for 20% attrition.
