To drive and accelerate the advancement of digital health, JMIR provides valuable insights across all these topics. The inaugural edition was released in August 1999, with a second publication later that same year. Beginning in 2022, JMIR has published 12 issues annually. Starting in 2023, the publications have been organized into annual volumes without individual issue numbers. Under JMIR Publications, Inc., 26 volumes have been published, with 1 volume released each year.

JMIR Dermatology’s 2023 Year in Review
In 2023, JMIR Dermatology embraced papers treating all topics related to diseases of the skin, hair, and nails. This editorial aims to bring attention to and recognize reviewers, staff, and authors for their contributions to the journal. JMIR Dermatology published more than 78 papers exploring clinical information exchange, education, and efforts to facilitate the diagnosis and delivery of dermatologic care.

Increasing the Impact of JMIR Journals in the Attention Economy
The Journal of Medical Internet Research (JMIR) has engaged many health researchers since the journal published its inaugural issue in August 1999 [1]. JMIR is now ranked number one in the field of medical informatics, and the JMIR publishing office has issued close to 30 additional sister journals, including JMIR m Health and u Health, the Journal of Serious Games, and others. These are remarkable achievements.

Reflecting on the twentieth anniversary of the Journal of Medical Internet Research (JMIR), “form follows function” also well explains the success and impact of the journal in promoting high quality research, supporting innovation in publication, and supporting a generation of young investigators.
In the 20 years JMIR has represented the field of digital health, the nature of digital health research has evolved and transformed.
