Gender Inequalities in Employment of Parents Caring for Children With Autism Spectrum Disorder in China: Cross-Sectional Study

Gender Inequalities in Employment of Parents Caring for Children With Autism Spectrum Disorder in China: Cross-Sectional Study

Comparative research suggests that parents of children with ASD spend more time providing care for their children at home than those of children without special health care needs [3]. There is strong evidence suggesting that having a child with ASD in the household adversely affects the employment status of the parents [4,5]. In the United States, approximately 30%-50% of caregivers of children with ASD have completely ceased working [6].

Internet-Delivered Psychoeducation (SCOPE) for Transition-Aged Autistic Youth: Pragmatic Randomized Controlled Trial

Internet-Delivered Psychoeducation (SCOPE) for Transition-Aged Autistic Youth: Pragmatic Randomized Controlled Trial

All participants completed the Autism Spectrum Disorder Quiz (ASD Quiz), which had shown acceptable reliability in a previous study [29], modified from a corresponding knowledge quiz [39,40]. The ASD Quiz consists of 16 questions related to facts about autism spectrum disorders; items are rated true, false, or unsure and subsequently assessed as either correct or incorrect, with correct answers summed for a total score out of 16. Higher scores indicate more autism knowledge.

Ben-Sasson and Yom-Tov [18] also adopted DT to address a possible early identification of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) through internet-based queries posed by parents suspecting that their children could have that diagnosis; the classifier achieved an area under the curve of 0.82, indicating good predictive accuracy for identifying ASD risk based on parental narratives.

Early Detection of 5 Neurodevelopmental Disorders of Children and Prevention of Postnatal Depression With a Mobile Health App: Observational Cross-Sectional Study

Among these impairments, a neurodevelopmental disorder (NDD) such as autism spectrum disorder (ASD) affects 1 in 166 children [1]. The average time to diagnosis is approximately 4 to 6 years, whereas consensus statements indicate that a diagnosis could be made as early as 12 or 18 months of age [2-6]. Interestingly, parents are the main contributors to the NDD screening of their children [7].
