Their responses had less internal consistency reliability on several health measures than those who did not endorse a fake condition (Hays et al [38]).
Those who reported having back pain were asked to participate in a follow-up survey that included additional questions related to their back pain. If an individual opted not to continue, they would be paid for completing the first part of the survey and were not included in further analysis.
