Testing the Effectiveness of a Mobile Smartphone App Designed to Improve the Mental Health of Junior Physicians: Protocol for a Randomized Controlled Trial

Testing the Effectiveness of a Mobile Smartphone App Designed to Improve the Mental Health of Junior Physicians: Protocol for a Randomized Controlled Trial

An in-depth report of phases 1 to 4 can be found in Counson et al [13]; phase 5 is detailed in Sanatkar et al [14]. Notably, a 2020 uncontrolled evaluation of the Shift app with 222 junior physicians across NSW found significant reductions in symptoms of depression and anxiety after 1 month of app use [14]. While preliminary findings are promising, a nationwide randomized controlled trial (RCT) with junior physician participants is required to reliably establish the app’s effectiveness.
