The WER, expressed as a percentage, is defined as: where S is the number of substitutions, D is the number of deletions (words spoken but left out in the transcription, such as the word “out” in Figure 2), I is the number of insertions (words that are not spoken but have been inserted by the transcription, such as the word “you” in Figure 2), H is the number of hits (correct words), and N is the total number of words in the reference (gold standard). The Jiwer library [42] was used to calculate the WER.
