eHealth Literacy 2.0: Problems and Opportunities With an Evolving Concept

eHealth Literacy 2.0: Problems and Opportunities With an Evolving Concept

The work by Stellefson and colleagues [3] looked at the state of e Health literacy research with young people, drawing on the original study and model of e Health literacy by Norman and Skinner [1,2] and also the definition of health literacy posed by the U.S. Institute of Medicine [17]. The paper demonstrates how things can get conflated when looking at the literacy issues within an e Health context.

eHEALS: The eHealth Literacy Scale

A review of the literature was undertaken on each of the six key literacies that comprise Norman and Skinner’s e Health literacy model [3] in the Medline, Psyc Info, ERIC, Sociological Abstracts, and Web of Science databases to identify existing literacy measures. Although some measures were found, few had been rigorously psychometrically evaluated, and some were designed for specific projects that were not relevant to how the literacy concept was conceived of in relation to the e Health literacy model.
