Agreement Between Experts and an Untrained Crowd for Identifying Dermoscopic Features Using a Gamified App: Reader Feasibility Study

The use of dermoscopy, a low-cost, noninvasive diagnostic technique based on a hand-held device with a light source and magnifying lens, is routine practice for the evaluation of pigmented skin lesions and has been shown to increase sensitivity for early melanoma detection [1,2]. Dermoscopy allows examination of morphological features below the stratum corneum that would not be visible by visual inspection alone [3].
