Michie and colleagues define “biofeedback” as a behavior change technique (BCT) that “informs the person about their physiological or biochemical state using an external monitoring device to improve the adoption of health behaviors” [16]. An example of biofeedback as a BCT is the use of a heart rate monitor to achieve the prescribed exercise intensity as part of a physical activity intervention.
