She is a mother of 5 children and grandmother of 7. The other interviewer (KHG) was a European, female, health psychology Ph D candidate, licensed mental health clinician who specializes in perinatal mood disorders, and mother of 2 children. Participants who self-identified as Māori were offered the choice of being interviewed by the non-Māori or Māori researcher. The Māori researcher conducted interviews in alignment with tikanga Māori (Māori protocols).

I think it’s good for certain things like I think if you’re… from a particular country or race or something and you’re prone to very like high health risk diseases for example…I think that’s important and sure a computer can fill that information out so that way they red flag like check her heart every time she comes in. Participants indicated that AI could be useful to help automate local social and community resources to assist with their social situation.

An Explainable AI Application (AF’fective) to Support Monitoring of Patients With Atrial Fibrillation After Catheter Ablation: Qualitative Focus Group, Design Session, and Interview Study

In this section, we summarize and report the in-depth insights from the 2 early stages of interviews (partially reported as a poster in the study by She et al [39]) and group design sessions to conceptualize and pilot-test our design strategies and prototype. We chose to include some key findings from these early stages to enhance readers’ understanding of our design decisions in developing the final prototype for evaluation.
