Ethical approval was not required, as the dataset consisted of anonymized, aggregated information, following resolutions 466/2012 and 510/2016 (article 1, sections III and V) from the National Health Council (Conselho Nacional de Saúde), Brazil. All analyses were carried out in accordance with relevant ethical guidelines for data protection and research integrity.
The current network includes 310 sentinel sites in 199 municipalities, representing only 3.6% (199/5570) of the country’s cities.
