Therefore, there is a strong need for more research surrounding smartphone apps delivering a comprehensive self-management program for adults with COPD to better understand its role in health care. Furthermore, there is a need to explore whether the use of a third-party involvement, such as a health care professional, to support trial participants in using the app, has any impact on engagement levels.

In particular, Instagram has a strong fitness subculture [34]. The rise of fitness influencers and communities on these platforms may also encourage users to share their data more openly. In addition, there seems to be an evolving perception of sharing fitness data, now viewed as a motivational and supportive tool, possibly amplified by the COVID-19 pandemic’s push for social connectedness during periods of isolation [35].

Both proposed mobile apps included 18 items on the scale, indicating a high number of BCTs embedded in the apps and strong behavior change potential (Multimedia Appendix 5 [78]). The academic advisory panel reviewed and agreed on the final intervention prototype as well as the refined program theory. Figure 3 is a logic model that represents the program theory of the mother-daughter intervention.

Furthermore, without proper guidance from a trained therapist, musical engagement can evoke strong emotions and memories that are undesirable or even harmful to people with cancer [19,56]. Public-facing websites often neglected to mention these risks when offering services by nonmusic therapists. Greater emphasis should be placed on educating patients about the distinction between MT and MS, as well as their relative benefits and risks.
The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the adoption of telehealth.
