(Toronto, March 18, 2021) JMIR Publications, a leading “born digital” open-access publisher of academic peer-reviewed journals with a focus on digital health and open science and other innovative scientific communication products, today announced the appointment of Jennifer Joe, MD, to Chief Ambassador.
Built on the philosophy of democratizing validated scientific research and accelerating best practices in medicine and science, JMIR is excited to bring Dr Joe’s expertise into its portfolio of offerings. Recently named #18 on Medika’s Top 50 List for Influential Voices in Healthcare for 2021 along with Dr Anthony Fauci, Dr Joe brings over 10 years of experience in translating complex ideas into digestible pieces and capturing the reader’s imagination.
Dr Joe completed her internal medicine training at Georgetown and a nephrology fellowship at the Harvard-affiliated Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital. As Founder and former Editor-in-Chief of MedTech Boston, Dr Joe is widely respected in academic medicine and business alike. She also conducted the Harvard Medical School course, “Writing, Publishing, and Social Media for Healthcare Professionals” for 3 consecutive years and is currently a lecturer at the MIT Media Lab.
“Having known Dr Joe’s work for almost 10 years, we’re honored to have her expertise further expand JMIR’s scientific knowledge translation and communication into new channels and leverage new social and digital media tools. Our goal is to accelerate the adoption of our authors’ new research into current practice,” said Prof Dr Gunther Eysenbach, JMIR Publications’ Founder, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), and Executive Editor.
“In the digital age and with so many powerful communication tools, it should no longer take the proverbial 10 years to translate new research from bench to bedside. I’m excited to be partnering with such an innovative publisher to more quickly and effectively deliver best practices to patients and the broader community,” said Dr Joe.
Adrian Stanley, JMIR Publications’ Chief Innovation and Development Officer noted, “It’s excellent to be working together with Dr Joe. She brings insights and energy to the Digital Health space and an exciting way to more broadly share author research insights to a wider global audience.”
In addition to representing JMIR Publications externally, Dr Joe will support the JMIR “Knowledge Translation” suite of services, which include author videos, visual abstracts, infographics, and external events.
